Chapter Three. Inescapable Data FundamentalsLounging in the sun on one side of the club pool, thumbing through the Internet via my PDA, my kids on the other side of the pool text message me about it being time "definitely" to leave. There are many comments to be made here, but the most significant is that their chosen mode to reach me was immediate, personal, and did not require voice. Yet, the method they chose was cool to them. For me, it was perfectly asynchronous, meaning that at the time the message is sent, the receiver of the message (myself, in this case) can either answer it immediately or answer it at a more convenient time. |
