Changing ColdFusion Studio's Startup Folder

The default settings for ColdFusion Studio may not be suited to your needs, and of course you can change whichever ones you want. However, there are a few basic settings that, logically, should be changed to save you time and make the editor easier to use. One of these is the default startup folder location.

Almost all of your Web development will be done in your Inetpub\ wwwroot folder. But the ColdFusion Studio Files Resource tab doesn't start up in that folder; it starts in the Program Files folder. If you leave the defaults, each time you start Studio you have to change directories to access your files. Let's change this!

  1. Choose Options > Settings.

This will bring up the Settings window, where most of your Studio configurations will take place.

    TIP

This menu can also be accessed by pressing F8.

  2. Select Startup from the menu on the left.

This brings up the Startup options. As you can see, you have several options for what the Startup folder will be. You can start in the folder last opened in the Files tab, in the File Open dialog, or you can specify the folder in which you always want to start. You want this third option.

  3. Click the radio button next to Always start in this folder.

Once you have selected this option, you should specify in which folder you want to start. You can do this by either typing in the directory or browsing for it.

  4. Click the folder icon to the right of the input field to navigate to a new folder. Browse to Inetpub\wwwroot and click OK.

Once you have selected the Inetpub\wwwroot folder and clicked OK you return to the Startup options menu. Notice that the field for "Always start in this folder" is now populated with X:\Inetpub\wwwroot, where X is the designation of the hard drive.

  5. Click Apply.

Once you click Apply, your changes will take affect and the Settings window will disappear.
