To use the Datasheet view in a library or a list, you must have Excel 2003 installed on your PC. If you click the Edit in Datasheet option in the toolbar from within a document library or list, and don't have Excel 2003 installed, you will get an error message saying the list cannot be displayed in Datasheet view. Figure 10.1 shows the Datasheet view of the document library we were working with in the last lesson. There are four documents in the library, and the Datasheet view displays them and the metadata associated with them in a grid or spreadsheet type of format. Figure 10.1 is scrolled to the right, hiding the left-hand side menu bar, to display the full toolbar. Some new tools are provided in the Datasheet view, as marked by numbers in Figure 10.1.
