Managing Content in the Site

A site is essentially a big container filled with smaller subcontainers of information. For example, a site may be composed of five document libraries, an announcements list, four custom lists, two discussion groups, and a tasks list. The amount of these subcontainers in a site depends on the needs of the site and how many you as a Site Administrator create.

To administer this information, or to simply get an idea of what is currently there, perform the following steps:

1.

From the site home page, click Site Settings on the top bar.

2.

Under the Customization section, click Modify Site Content.

3.

Under the Site Content area, like the one shown in Figure 15.2, you will be able to see all the "subcontainers" in your site and any customized ones you created. Customize existing content by clicking the links, or create new content by clicking the Create new content button.

A great deal of what a Site Administrator has to do is related to the creation and administration of this site content. For more information on specific types of site content and how to best leverage them, reference Lesson 19, "Creating Libraries and Lists," and Lesson 20, "Creating Custom Lists and Importing Spreadsheets."
