Using Excel 2003 with SharePoint enables users to access a variety of additional features and tools that many consider to be essential for day-to-day activities. For example, document libraries and lists give the option Export to Spreadsheet in the left-hand menu bar, but this only works if Excel 2003 is in use. Also, as mentioned in Lesson 10, "The Datasheet and Explorer Views," a number of different tools are available to the user in the Datasheet view, which provides a spreadsheet-like working environment that can be very helpful when working with more complex lists and libraries. Once again, the Datasheet view is only available if Excel 2003 is in use. Excel 2003 also can be of great assistance with a number of other standard tasks:
