Part Overview

No two businesses are alike, each uses a unique set of tools and processes to manage their customers. Therefore, companies need to make sure that their customer management software can easily adjust and conform to their needs. Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 offers powerful configuration tools so that customers can modify and customize the software, yet administrators can use these tools through a simple and easy-to-learn Web interface.

The first three chapters of this book will cover Part I, "Configuration and Settings." We will give you some background on Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 and then we'll introduce some of the key Microsoft CRM terminology and concepts you'll use throughout the entire book. After the overview, we'll jump right into the details of how to set up and configure common areas of the application. Before you read Chapters 2 and 3 you should install Microsoft CRM 3.0, increase your comfort level navigating through the user interface, and have a rough idea of how your company wants to implement your CRM strategy. For the most part, you'll find the configuration and settings administration tools we cover in Part I located under the Settings section of Microsoft CRM. Of course, you'll need the appropriate security privileges to access the Settings area. In Chapter 3, we'll go into the details of configuring information security and data access in Microsoft CRM.

Part II of this book will explain how you can customize Microsoft CRM. The last part of this book, Part III, will review how you can create custom code for more complex Microsoft CRM implementation and integration needs.
