Highlights
Although qmail is highly reliable, problems do occasionally arise. The mail administrator should be able to analyze them, determine who or what is responsible, and then resolve them if possible.
In most cases, problems with mail delivery are because of misconfiguration, network connectivity issues, and mail clients and servers that are not standards-compliant. Problems due to bugs in qmail are rare.
The tools in the troubleshooter's toolbox include process monitoring, logs, message headers, and testing.
