Transitions Don t Appear Correctly

Transitions Don't Appear Correctly

If a transition does not appear to play back very smoothly, with what appears to be a flash frame (see Figure 5.14), do not panic. This is a common mistake that is easily correctable. This can occur if the clip you have digitized has a natural camera cut in it (where you see the beginning or end of a next/previous shot as you digitized your material). What is most likely happening is that the camera cut where the original source scene is not long enough, and you see the beginning of the next scene that exists on the source tape. This switch to the next scene is being played back during the dissolve or transition. If this occurs toward the end of the transition, just as the original scene becomes transparent, this scene change in the faded frame(s) is enough to cause a jarring visual effect that your eye catches, but it probably flew by too quickly for you to realize what happened the first time around. Your eye generally notices when something is visually wrong. To fix this problem, either trim the clip forward or backward or alter the transition's duration until the flash frame no longer appears.

Figure 5.14. If you are not careful, a frame or two might appear in transitions of source material that contains natural camera cuts.
