The Simple Art of the Cut

Believe it or not, it takes a good editor to make a program flow very smoothly when you're only working with cuts. A cut is nothing more than the last frame of the outgoing video clip being placed right next to the first frame of the incoming video clip. That's about it. No applied transition. No special effects. There's not much more to say other than it is the simplest transition to use, the most common type, and arguably one of the most powerful transitions in any type of project if used correctly.

tip

If you want to use cuts but do not want to create that ping-pong effect in which whom-ever is speaking is on camera, check out the section "Getting Creative with Split Edits" in Chapter 4, "Fine Tuning Using Trim Mode." This technique can really improve your program's flow.
