Quick Reference Settings Viewer

The Settings Viewer, which appeared in release 6.0, continues to be a strong resource for managing your files within your Premiere projects. After you customize your project settings or load an existing template, you can view a handy window that compares all your settings, including Capture, Project, Clip (individually), and Export (see Figure 1.12). It allows you to take a quick peek at all the different settings and make sure you are working with the optimal settings across the board. It is recommended that the settings for Capture, Project, and Clip be identical for best results. In the Settings Viewer, any of these settings that do not match one another are displayed in red to attract your attention. (Export options may vary.)

  • Beginner Rule #1 As a beginner, keep all setting attributes similar.

  • Advanced Rule #1 After you have achieved advanced status, feel free to ignore Beginner Rule #1 when necessary.

Figure 1.12. The Settings Viewer allows you to quickly compare all the settings you have chosen for the current project.

warning

It's best not to make changes to the settings when a project is under way. This can cause conflicts with media files that have already been created based on the project's initial settings. Check the Settings Viewer for a quick reference comparison chart of project versus clip settings.

The Settings Viewer makes it extremely easy to quickly and conveniently compare and adjust settings:

  1. To open it, select Project > Settings Viewer.

  2. To adjust any of the settings, click the particular setting's heading to launch that setting's control window.
