File Formats

The first step in beginning to produce your media content starts before you launch DVDit. Whichever applications you choose to work with, you need to create all your media in other third-party applications. Depending on the type of DVD project you are creating, you need to do the following:

  • Create graphics for menus. All images should be created at 640x480 or 720x540. The reason for creating graphics at 720x540 is because of the pixel aspect ratio difference between square pixels on the computer and rectangular pixels on TV. Supported graphics formats include the following:

    • Bitmap

    • JPEG

    • PICT

    • Photoshop

    • PNG

    • TIFF

    • Targa

  • Create or convert video. Supported formats include the following:

    • MPEG-1 (352x240 for NTSC and 352x288 for PAL)

    • MPEG-2 (720x480 for NTSC and 720x576 for PAL)

  • Create or convert audio. Supported formats include the following:

    • Wave

    • MPEG-I Layer II

note

DVDit converts both Wave and MPEG-I Layer II audio files into 48 kHz PCM audio files.
