Summary

In this chapter, we briefly examined the three data Web controls: the DataGrid, DataList, and Repeater. We looked at how each one is used, their feature-sets, and their advantages and disadvantages. We wrapped up this chapter by looking at some real-world problems, and discussing what data Web control might be the best fit for each scenario.

Over the remainder of the book, we will delve into the functionality of these three controls. This chapter has just scratched the surface of the true power of these controls. In the next chapter, we'll look at the DataSource property and DataBind() method for these controls in finer detail. In Chapter 3, we'll wrap up the first part of the book by examining how to customize the visual features of the controls through styles, properties, templates, and HTML markup.
