Returning an iPod to That Factory-Fresh Feeling

On occasion, all your work configuring your iPod might not be what you intended. Fortunately, you can return the iPod settings to their default values with a single menu command.

To do this, choose Main menu, Settings, Reset All Settings. You'll see the Reset All menu.

Highlight Reset and press the Select button. Your iPod's menus and all other settings will be returned to their default condition.

The Absolute Minimum

In this chapter, you've explored many of the options on the Settings menu and you've learned quite a number of ways to make your iPod suit your personal preferences. Check out the following list to review what you have learned and to pick up a few more pointers:

• Use the Shuffle, Repeat, Sound Check, and Equalizer to configure how music plays on your iPod.

• You can determine which commands appear on the Main menu by using the Main menu settings.

• Use the Contrast setting to set the contrast of the iPod's screen.

• Use the Sleep Timer to have your iPod go to sleep automatically.

• If you don't like the clicking sound that the iPod makes when you press a button, you can turn it off.

• Your iPod is multilingual; use the Language settings to determine which language your iPod uses.

• You can restore your iPod to its factory settings with the Reset All Settings command.

• The About command on the Settings menu provides important information about your iPod, including its name, disk capacity, available space, the software version installed on it, its model, and serial number.

• The Audiobooks setting enables you to set the speed at which audiobooks play back. You can make audiobooks play more quickly by choosing Faster or more slowly by choosing Slower. Audiobooks will then play according to your preference. This can be useful if a book you are listening to plays too slowly; use the Faster setting to speed things up. Or if a book plays too quickly, you can slow it down a bit. (This setting does not affect music.)

• The Date & Time settings enable you to configure and work with your iPod's clock. You'll learn about those settings in Chapter 9, "Using the iPod's Calendar, Contact Manager, and Other Non-Music Tools."

• You use the Contacts setting to choose how contacts on your iPod are displayed. You'll learn about that in Chapter 9, too.

• The Legal setting takes you to the oh-so-useful Legal screen, which contains lots of legalese that you can read should you have absolutely nothing else to do.
