Previewing Tunes

One of the great things about the iTunes Music Store is that you can preview music before you buy. These 30-second previews help you be more sure that the music you are buying is really something you want. For example, you can compare alternate versions of the same songs, listen to songs by artists who are new to you, or listen for any other reason.

Tip

The Content pane for the iTunes Music Store works just like the Content pane for other sources. For example, you can sort it by any of its columns. You can also change the columns displayed. However, you can't choose from as many columns as you can for other sources. Of course, you can't drag songs from the iTunes Music Store onto a playlist, as you can those in other sources, until after you purchase them.

To preview a song, you select it in the Content pane of the iTunes Music Store and click the Play button or double-click the song (see Figure 23.10). The preview will begin to play, again just like a song on another source, such as a CD or playlist. You can preview as many songs as you'd like, and you can preview the same song as much as you want.
