Viewing the Music You Have Purchased

tip

Purchased songs that you move to a different computer won't be added to the Purchased Music playlist automatically. You can drag them onto that playlist from the Library if you want to put them there.

You have a couple ways to see the music you have purchased.

The first way you have already read about. Select the Purchased Music source and you will see all the music you have obtained from the iTunes Music Store. (This assumes you haven't removed any songs from this playlist.)

The second way is to view the entire purchase history for a user account. To do so, perform the following steps:

1. While signed in under the user account whose history you want to see, click the Account button (you need to select the Music Store source to see this button). You will be prompted to enter the password for that account.

note

You can create an audio CD from music you purchase from the iTunes Music Store and then import that music into a Library on another computer. Because the music is converted into the Audio CD format when you do this, it doesn't count against the five-computer limit for music you purchase from the iTunes Music Store. However, if you use this technique to play music you have purchased on more than five computers at the same time, you will violate the spirit and letter of the license agreement you accept when you purchase music from the store. I recommend that you only use this method if this won't result in more than five computers playing this music at the same time. This can be particularly useful if one of the machines on which you will be playing music can't connect to the Internet, which is required for authorization to take place.

2.

Enter the account's password and click View Account. The Content pane will be filled with the Apple Account Information window, which provides, amazingly enough, information about the user account.

3.

Click the Purchase History button. The data will be retrieved, and the Content pane will show the music purchased during each shopping session (see Figure 26.8).

Figure 26.8. Your purchase history will be organized by shopping sessions.

4.

To view the detail for a shopping session, click its Detail button. The screen will be refreshed, and you will see a detailed list of all the music purchased during that session (see Figure 26.9).

5.

When you are done viewing the history of your purchases, click the Done button; you'll need to click it twice if you are viewing a detail screen. You'll return to the Apple Account Information screen.

6.

Click Done. You'll move back to the iTunes Music Store.
