Q&A

Q1:

Since WebLogic Server supports J2EE specification version 1.3, does this mean that applications based on any of the J2EE technologies (like Java servlets and JavaServer Pages) and developed in a different application server run on WebLogic Server 7.0?

A1:

Yes. As long as the applications built on application servers of other vendors comply with the technologies in J2EE specification 1.3 and do not use any proprietary code, the applications will be guaranteed to run without any problems on WebLogic Server 7.0.

Q2:

I have not seen any reference to the JavaMail API. Does WebLogic Server support the JavaMail API?

A2:

WebLogic Server 7.0 does support the JavaMail API version 1.1.3. Applications deployed in WebLogic Server can access mailing functionality, including support for the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) and Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) protocols. But the Post Office Protocol (POP3) protocol is not supported by default. You can work around this by downloading the relevant .jar file from the Java Web site and include the .jar in the CLASSPATH.
