Chapter 5
The next order of business after you create and save a document is usually to enhance your text by applying text formatting attributes and adding any necessary symbols or special characters. As an experienced user, you probably perform some of these formatting tasks while you enter text, and you're likely familiar with at least a few text formatting techniques. However, Word provides numerous approaches to applying formatting such as text fonts, sizes, attributes, and more. In this chapter, we'll look at the various text formatting options (including inserting symbols, special characters, and basic date and time elements). With any luck, you'll discover a new technique or two or three along the way. More advanced formatting techniques, such as formatting paragraphs, are discussed in Chapter 7, "Aligning Information and Styling Paragraphs."
