All of your data is stored in files. All the good things you do with your computer involve files, and some of the bad things do, too. This means you must be careful when working with your files because any mistake you make can cause your files and your valuable data to disappear.

Most file problems are caused by something you do. You press the wrong key, click the wrong button, or select the wrong item, and shazam! you have a problem. Fortunately, these problems are easy to prevent and, in most cases, easy to recover from.
