Customizing Graphics

OOo Impress has a lot of interesting shapes that you can drag from the toolbar on the left side of the main edit screen into your slide. Choices include circles, ellipses, squares, faces, stars, and various other geometric shapes. Some of the buttons also have dropdown menus of specialized shapes.

Using the shapes toolbar.

There are buttons for freehand and connector lines as well. Use a connector line when you want to "connect" one shape to another. This type of line is great for charts where you want to show a process flow. A nice feature of the connector line is that even if you move the shapes, your lines stay connected and reroute themselves automatically. (Impress uses vector graphics, which means that shapes are objects, not collections of pixels.)

You can also add images to your slides by selecting Insert > Picture > From File.

You can then resize the image by grabbing the outline handles and dragging the image to its new size. Click the graphic to get the four-sided arrow, and then move the graphic around on your slide.
