What are styles? Before this question is answered, you need an example. Start a new document and select Format > Styles and Formatting (or press F11). The Styles and Formatting window.
By default, this window displays Paragraph styles. The other types of styles are Character, Frame, Page, and Numbering styles. This section covers Paragraph styles only. For this example, type three lines of text that say Section 1, Subsection 1.1, and Subsection 1.2. Type three lines of text, as shown.
Put the cursor on the first line (Section 1). In the Styles and Formatting window, double-click Heading 1. You should see the font change. You just applied the Heading 1 style to the first paragraph. Similarly, apply the Heading 2 style to the second and third lines. Section 1 has the Heading 1 paragraph style, and the subheadings have the Heading 2 paragraph style.
So, what are styles? Styles are a logical description for the document. Styles mean that you stop saying "bold, 14 points, centered" and start saying "title." |
