The Video CD

The video CD will play on any computer that has a Web browser and Flash player installed. To view the videos, open the CD on your computer (if it does not open automatically) and click the file named "Click Here." This automatically opens your Web browser and, on most computers, automatically plays the first video.

Each video has a control bar that tells you how long the video is in minutes and lets you start, replay, pause, fast-forward, and rewind it.

The videos are 800 pixels wide and 600 pixels high. This size gives them maximum clarity in most Web browsers on most monitors. If the videos are too large for your screen, you can select View > Full Screen in most browsers to expand your browser's viewing area. If your toolbar occupies the left side of your browser window, which is common in Microsoft Explorer's default configuration, you may want to close that toolbar to give the video more room to display.

Perhaps you follow these steps and still can't see the videos full-size. This usually occurs because you have a very old monitor or one set to 800 x 600 screen resolution instead of the 1024 x 768 size that has become the minimum standard monitor resolution in recent years. Instead of using the menu to open the videos, you can click the movies folder icon and view the videos individually by right-clicking their titles and selecting your Web browser as the program used to open them. This automatically scales the videos to fit your browser window. They will not be as clear as when they are shown at their full 800 x 600 size, but they will still be legible enough that you can learn from them.

If you do not have a Flash player installed on your Windows or Mac computer, you can download it for free from www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer. The download site automatically detects your operating system, so you get the version that is right for you. A Linux version is available at that Web site as well, but if you run Linux, you will almost certainly find it easier to install your Flash player if you obtain it from your Linux distribution's download repository instead of directly from Macromedia.
