The Bottom Line

If you're like most users, you browse the Web for at least an hour every day, which means that you'll get a lot of use out of the new Internet Explorer 6 included with Windows XP. Just be sure you remember these key points:

• Windows XP includes a new version of Internet Explorer, version 6, which features the new Luna interface and some improved functionality.

• Before you can customize IE6's toolbars, you first have to unlock them. (Select View, Toolbars, then uncheck Lock the Toolbars.)

• Most of IE6's configuration options are found in the Internet Options dialog box (select Tools, Internet Options or click the Internet Options icon in the Windows Control Panel); the most-used settings are found on the General tab.

• You can save your favorite Web sites to the Favorites list. Click the Favorites button to select a site from your Favorites list.

• You can search directly from the browser by entering a query (preceded by a ?) into the Address bar; to query multiple search engines, click the Search button to display the Search Companion.

• To disable Internet Explorer as your default browser, open the Add or Remove Programs applet, select Set Program Access and Defaults, then uncheck the Enable Access to This Program option under the Choose a Default Web Browser section.
