What s Next After Windows XP?

What's Next After Windows XP?

Windows XP may be new to you, but it's been on the market almost four years now which means that it's time to start thinking about what comes after Windows XP. Microsoft's next Windows upgrade is codenamed Longhorn, and it promises new operating and interface features including a possible new file management system and a nifty 3D desktop. Longhorn has been promised for release some time in 2006, but I'll believe it when I see it. (And remember, a 2006 release could mean that the software ships on New Year's Eve.) Given Microsoft's track record of vaporware and software delays, I think we'll be using Windows XP for a couple more years before it's time to switch to whatever they dub Longhorn in its official release. After all, Windows XP works pretty well; what's the hurry to upgrade?
