When you're traveling, it's nice to be able to find free WiFi service, and to know if and where your cell phone is going to work. If you're a connected traveler, here are a few high-tech mashups you might find useful.

  • Cell Phone Reception and Tower Search (www.cellreception.com) Find out where the nearest cell phone tower is, and what kind of reception you should expect

  • gWiFi.net (www.gwifi.net) A map mashup of free WiFi hotspots across the country, as shown in Figure 19.11

  • Sharemywifi.com (www.sharemywifi.com) Find out which of your neighbors have unencrypted WiFi networks that you can leech off of
