SETTING UP AN EMAIL ACCOUNT

An email message is like a regular letter, except that it's composed electronically and delivered almost immediately via the Internet. One of the most popular email programs is Microsoft Outlook Express, which is included as part of Windows XP. We'll look at how to set up Outlook Express to work with the email account you have with your Internet service provider.

From within Outlook Express, pull down the Tools menu and select Accounts.

When the Internet Accounts dialog box appears, select the Mail tab.

Click the Add button and select Mail.

Enter your name.

Click Next.

Enter your email address.

Click Next.

Pull down the My Incoming Mail Server Is a list and select POP3.

Enter the name for your incoming email server, as provided by your ISP.

Enter the name for your outgoing mail server, as provided by your ISP.

Click Next.

TIP

Server Names

Your Internet service provider should provide you with the server names you need to enter. Some providers might instruct you to use a server type other than POP3.

Enter your username as provided by your ISP.

Enter your password as provided by your ISP.

Click Next.

Click the Finish button to finalize your new account
