  1. A thorough discussion of the various vendors' cluster software is found in In Search of Clusters by Gregory Pfister. This book is considered to be the "cluster Bible" by many users, because it gives a fair treatment of all important products as of the publication date (circa 1999).

  2. A brief PowerPoint presentation of cluster comparisons (circa 2000) can be downloaded from eisner.decus.org/lugs/esilug/presentations/.

  3. Before setting up your first cluster, read Guidelines for OpenVMS Cluster Configurations. OpenVMS Cluster Systems contains several detailed examples of setting up and maintaining clusters in Chapter 8.

  4. Volume Shadowing for OpenVMS is a necessary companion to complete the clustering topic.

  5. Chapter 22 of the OpenVMS System Manager's Manual, Volume 2: Tuning, Monitoring, and Complex Systems is a good introduction to clusters and some management issues.

  6. MONITOR and SHOW CLUSTER are fully described in the Open VMS System Management Utilities Reference Manual: M-Z.

  7. The OpenVMS technical reference was written by Roy Davis in 1993, called VAX Cluster Principles. Although dated, the basic algorithms and data structures are still valid, even though new hardware capabilities have been added.
