The MST File Viewer (MSTView.exe) enables you to view the customizations that a transform (MST file) makes when Microsoft Office 2003 is installed on a user’s computer. Transforms are created by using the Custom Installation Wizard.
To use the MST File Viewer, you must supply it with the path and file name of the MST file you created with the Custom Installation Wizard. The MST File Viewer is not a separate application—instead, it reads the MST file and creates a plain-text file containing readable content. The information is then displayed through the Notepad text editor.
The MST File Viewer is automatically installed on your computer when you install the Microsoft Office Resource Kit. To locate the tool, click the Start button, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Office, point to Microsoft Office Tools, point to Microsoft Office Resource Kit, and then click MST File Viewer.
When you run the tool, the Windows Installer Transform Viewer dialog box is displayed. You need to specify both a Windows Installer base package (MSI file) and the transform (MST file) you want to view. After you select the files, click View Transform to display the text file created by the MST File Viewer.
The MST File Viewer can also be downloaded from the Toolbox on the Office 2003 Resource Kit Web site.
