Synchronizing Cluster Configuration Settings

During synchronization, Application Center replicates controller and cluster configuration settings to all of the cluster members.

NOTE

During synchronization, a member that is in offline state (for load balancing) is still synchronized to the controller unless you explicitly disable synchronization on that member.

Even if synchronization is disabled on a member, there are certain settings that are still copied from the controller to each member on an ongoing basis. This is done to ensure that every member has up-to-date information about the cluster infrastructure and topology. Some examples of this configuration information are: IP address binding, network adapter information, and server computer names.

See also: Appendix G, "Managing IISIP Bindings."

Replicating Network Settings

The controller replicates several network settings across the cluster, including the following:

  • The load-balanced IP address on the front-end network adapter in a multi-adapter configuration
  • IP subnet
  • Default gateway and gateway cost metric
  • DNS server search order
  • DNS domain
  • Primary and Secondary WINS server
  • WINS node type

Replicating NLB Settings

In a cluster that has NLB enabled, the controller replicates the following information:

  • The cluster name.
  • The cluster IP address.
  • The message exchange period (in milliseconds) between cluster nodes.
  • The number of messages that can be missed from a node before initiating convergence.
  • The User Datagram Protocol (UDP) that should be used to receive remote control commands.
  • A switch that specifies whether or not remote control and enumeration are enabled for the controller.
  • The start and end port numbers for disabled port rules.
  • The start port number, end port number, protocol, and affinity for load-balanced port rules.
