Using Visual SourceSafe

In this exercise, you will create and manage a project's files in Visual SourceSafe.

* To create a Visual Source Safe project

  1. On the File menu in Visual SourceSafe Explorer, click Create Project .

    Visual SourceSafe displays the Create Project dialog box.

  2. Type a project name and comment.

    The comment provides a detailed description of the reasons for creating the project and what you intend to do with the project. The comments you add in this dialog box are part of the project's history and can be viewed and edited in other dialog boxes, such as the History of File or History of Project dialog boxes.

  3. To add the project, click OK .

* To add files to a Visual SourceSafe project

  1. On the File menu, choose Add Files .

    Visual SourceSafe displays the Add File dialog box.

  2. Click the Drives list box arrow and select a drive, if necessary.
  3. In the Folders box, click a folder.
  4. In the File Name list box, click a file.
  5. Click Add .

    Visual SourceSafe displays another Add File dialog box.

  6. Click the Apply Same Comment For All check box to use the same comment for all files that you add to the current project.

    After you Click OK , the file you added no longer appears in the File Name box, because it is already part of a project.

  7. Click OK .
