Inter-object Communication

Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) is a COM-based mechanism that allows applications to interoperate . This allows you to work more productively because the functionality of many applications can be used within a single application. OLE is used to build compound documents, which can be saved in a single file called a compound file.

This lesson explains how OLE is used to build compound documents and control applications.

After this lesson you will be able to
  • Create a compound document.
  • Use OLE Automation to control an application.
  • Describe what structured storage is, and how it works.
