This chapter presents the dashboard site, the Web-based component of Microsoft^® SharePoint^™ Portal Server 2001. It introduces the default dashboard site and presents information about customizing the dashboard site to suit your organization's needs. Based on Microsoft Digital Dashboard technology, the dashboard site offers a single customizable source for accessing information drawn from a wide variety of content sources while it maintains the security of the documents. Because the dashboard site is composed entirely of Web Parts, you can easily customize it for your business needs. By using Digital Dashboard technology, you can also manage common resources, such as your contacts, calendars, and messages.
