In the previous chapter, you learned how to configure alerts to notify you when problems occur in SQL Server. Ideally those problems should never occur. In this chapter, you will learn how to monitor SQL Server to find out when things are not performing normally and thereby take steps to rectify the problem before alerts fire.
This chapter also introduces the Database Maintenance Plan Wizard, which you can use to automatically create all of the jobs and tasks that should be part of your database maintenance plan.
