Converting a Set Expression into a Table

OLE DB Programmer's Reference

The set is fundamental in MDX. Each axis is composed of a set of tuples. The slicer condition (WHERE clause) is a set (usually with just one tuple). This section does not describe how to map every set value expression. For illustration purposes, it does present a limited number of topics to convey the concepts, which will help with mappings optimized for your SQL implementations.

The following topics provide introductory information about the process:

  • Tables and Sets
  • Literal Sets

And the topics below provide information about converting a set expression into a table:

  • UNION Function
  • EXCEPT Function
  • INTERSECT Function
  • CROSSJOIN Function
  • HIERARCHIZE Function
