Gateway Server

The Gateway Server computer is the main contact point that customers and business partners have with the mobile service. The Gateway server manages access to transport-specific, accounting, and back-end server computers where the requests are satisfied and results returned in response messages. However, because this server is exposed to the Internet, you should not keep any sort of customer, corporate, or sensitive data on it. Instead, you should keep that information on the back-end SQL Server.
