The illustration below shows the basic file transfer process.
Sending files over the Internet using the WSFT utility
The basic concept of the WSFT utility is to "upload" a file to a receiving Web service. To describe the process in more detail, we start with the sending organization configuring a computer with access to the Internet and the World Wide Web. This computer becomes the WSFT Client. (To keep this illustration as simple as possible, no firewalls are shown.) The WSFT utility is installed and two parameters in the Send File Lite program are configured:
The receiving organization configures a computer as a Web server also with a connection to the Internet. The WSFT utility is installed and configured as the WSFT Web service to accept files sent to it by a WSFT Client.
This illustration shows a simple file transfer. The utility works just as well between any WSFT client and WSFT Web service on an intranet. As stated above, the WSFT utility uses industry standard SOAP and HTTP protocols resulting in secure and reliable file and data transfer through corporate firewalls.
The next sections will configure the WSFT utility on both the sending (WSFT client) and receiving (WSFT Web service) sides.
