Part 2: Enterprise Application Integration

Part 2: Enterprise Application Integration

Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) encompasses a far-reaching subject that we cannot treat thoroughly here. We start with an overview of some of the major issues facing enterprises today. The following chapters each cover an EAI scenario, such as Web-to-host integration, data integration, and integrating BizTalk Server with SAP.

The distinction between EAI and B2B can be somewhat fuzzy. Often you need to address integrating with existing applications in order to automate the interfaces with your business partners. For example, if you create purchase orders in a financial software system such as SAP, you may need to integrate your SAP system with BizTalk Server first. Then you can send orders to your business partners over the Internet. The scenarios found in the EAI and B2B sections have some overlapping areas.
