Summary

After mastering the topics in this chapter along with the learning from the previous chapter, you’re now equipped to manage the Project Server update cycles for tracking progress in your project plans. You and your organization must make regular cyclical reporting a discipline among all resources and managers.

Everyone should enter their time and send their updates on a standard day each week. The absence of resources and managers must be tracked and managed during the update cycle. If necessary, implement surrogate processes for absent resources. Project managers enter time for absent resources directly in the project plan and then push the changes back to the resources by republishing the updated assignments. For updating purposes, managers take over tasks owned by absent managers and process the updates. Staying current with reporting and updates ensures that your system will have current data and, therefore, the respect of your user community.
