Economides (1996) has an excellent tutorial on network effects. Shapiro and Varian (1999b) discuss strategic issues related to the economic properties of information and software. Shy (2001) offers a rigorous survey of the economics surrounding networked industries, including but not limited to software, which details the economics of pricing, including complementarities and competition.
