Recovery Management Tools

The following sections describe the IBM IMS recovery management tools.

Application Recovery Tool for IMS and DB2 Databases, V1.2

The Application Recovery Tool for IMS and DB2 Databases:

  • Includes enhancements for IMS applications.

  • Supports HALDB (High Availability Large Databases) by adding a HALDB (Y|N) parameter to all IMS-related functions.

  • Supports IMS sysplex data sharing.

  • Adds the new member IMSDSGS to the PARMLIB.

Program number: 5697-F56

IMS Database Recovery Facility for z/OS, V2

The IMS Database Recovery Facility for z/OS:

  • Is a high performance, state of the art database recovery product supporting all recoverable IMS databases.

  • Provides a high performance tool for recovering IMS database data sets and Fast Path areas.

  • Works in an online environment, with a single pass of input data.

  • Speeds recovery by applying database changes to multiple data sets simultaneously.

  • Increases database availability by reducing recovery time.

  • Provides recovery to any prior point in time through a time stamp recovery function.

  • Follow-on version of the IMS Online Recovery Service for z/OS tool (5655-E50), containing all the features and functions of that product, and adding several key features such as:

    - IMS Database Recovery Facility initiation by submitting an MVS batch job

    - Batch invocation of the IMS Database Recovery Facility that does not require an active IMS region

    - Online invocation of the IMS Database Recovery Facility that does not use IMS region resources to update the database

    - Reading multiple image copy data sets and writing multiple database data sets in parallel

    - Use of DFSORT to order the input log records in several concurrent processes and apply changes in a single pass of the database

    - Analysis of recovery execution and provision of a formatted report summarizing inputs, outputs, and processing

    - Generation of a setup report/list without running the recovery process

    - Reporting of all open units of work that contain updates not applied in a point-in-time recovery

    - Parallel and concurrent processing to provide dramatic gains in performance

Program number: 5655-I44

IBM IMS DEDB Fast Recovery for z/OS, V2.2

The IBM IMS DEDB Fast Recovery for z/OS tool:

  • Assists in the operation and maintenance of data integrity of IMS databases.

  • Is designed as a fast alternative to emergency restart (ERE) failure recovery.

  • Corrects online log data sets (OLDSs) by invalidating logging for transactions that did not reach the sync point.

  • Significantly reduces the amount of time needed to recover DEDBs after an IMS failure.

  • Generates the JCL for the MSDB Dump Recovery utility to be processed before an IMS cold start for MSDB (main storage database) recovery.

  • Shortens the recovery time of an unscheduled IMS cold start while maintaining the integrity of the IMS databases.

  • Supports multiple IMS releases from a single Load Library.

Program number: 5655-E32

IBM IMS High Performance Image Copy for z/OS, V3.2

The IBM IMS High Performance Image Copy for z/OS tool:

  • Helps you process and manage image copies more efficiently.

  • Enables you to run the image copy function with the hash checking of the IMS High Performance Pointer Checker for z/OS tool, V2, under the control of the IMS Parallel Reorganization for z/OS tool, V3.

  • Reduces the run time of the reorganization process for an IMS full function database.

  • Allows accuracy checking of an image copy and supports processes in parallel within an IMS Parallel Reorganization.

  • Contains a new optional parameter for controlling the secondary image copy data set.

  • Supports dynamic allocation for the specification of SMS classes for new output image copy data sets.

  • Provides a Creation Image Copy function that creates new copies from IMS standard image copy data sets, ICE compressed image copy data sets, IMS Online Image Copy data sets, and IMS Image Copy 2 data sets, while simultaneously creating up to seven copies from the original data set.

Program number: 5655-K96

IBM IMS High Performance Change Accumulation for z/OS, V1.2

The IMS High Performance Change Accumulation for z/OS tool:

  • Replaces the IMS Parallel Change Accumulation tool; supports IMS Versions 6, 7, and 8; and adds numerous new features and functional improvements.

  • Improves operations by triggering a single job through the internal reader, without the need to submit the JCL manually. The job functions as a multitask address space, ensuring parallel streaming of both input and output data.

  • Eliminates the need for the XCM address space and subsystem for easier installation.

  • Processes input data (from RLDSs) and output data (new CAs) in parallel to ensure that elapsed execution time is as short as possible; also provides the option for users to control the number of parallel processes.

  • Provides ISPF interfaces that allow for customization, setup, execution, and batch interfaces for operations.

  • Supports DBRC.

  • Provides processing report improvements that consolidate the status of associated address spaces into a single report and extends diagnostic capabilities with new error reporting messaging.

  • Supports an extended batch interface that makes it easier to run automated job scheduling facilities.
