    Chapter 27, "New Gizmos," discusses the advantages of visual gizmos, which is Cooper's term for previews. His advice: "Show; don't tell."

  • Horton, William. The Icon Book: Visual Symbols for Computer Systems and Documentation. New York, NY: John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 1994.

    While this book is primarily about icon design, it will also help you learn how to communicate visually. These are important skills when designing iconic and abstract previews.

  • Prosise, Jeff. Programming Windows with MFC, Second Edition. Redmond, WA: Microsoft Press, 1999.

    Chapter 13, "Printing and Print Previewing," has a detailed description of how print previewing is implemented in MFC.
