About the Contributors


Jim Blaylock, PMP, has more than thirty years experience leading projects in IT, Logistics, Distribution, Manufacturing, and Transportation. While in the Navy, he successfully managed organizations having in excess of 200 people and projects that ranged from $5 million to $75 million in value. Since retirement from the Navy, he has concentrated primarily on commercial projects, successfully leading ones for Sherwin Williams, Caterpillar, Fel-Pro, Toyota, Vauxhall, Federal Express, Home Shopping Network, Reynolds and Reynolds, Cincinnati Bell, Bloomingdales-By-Mail, and the State of Ohio. Jim holds a BS in Chemistry and an MS in Computer Systems Management and is a graduate of the Crosby Quality College. Certified as a PMP since 1993, he has served on the Board of Directors of the SWOHIO Chapter of PMI for more than eight years and is currently Director of Best Practices for the Chapter. He is a frequent speaker at seminars related to project management and in his spare time, Jim serves as an adjunct professor at the Williams College of Business at Xavier University in Cincinnati, teaching Operations Management for MBA candidates.

Karl Kill, PMP, is a Senior Project Manager with CheckFree Corporation. Karl has more than seventeen years of project management experience in a wide variety of industries, both private and public sectors. He has directed multidiscipline teams for the planning, development, implementation, and deployment of several large Information Technology projects. In addition, he has been a PMP-certified project manager since 1999 and is facilitating a PMP exam study group at CheckFree Corporation, helping others to become certified.

Karen Tate, PMP, President of The Griffin Tate Group, Inc., is the coauthor of The Project Management Memory Jogger, A Pocket Guide for Project Teams, Getting Started in Project Management, A Step By Step Approach to Risk Assessment, Triz: An Approach to Systematic Innovation, and The McGraw-Hill 36 Hour Course in Project Management. Ms. Tate has been working with projects and project teams for more than twenty years. Prior to forming The Griffin Tate Group, Inc., she managed programs and projects of all types and sizes, in a variety of industries. She has consulted and trained with organizations throughout the U.S., South Africa, China, Europe, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand.

Ms. Tate has earned her Project Management Professional Certification (PMP) from the Project Management Institute (PMI), and she has an MBA from Xavier University. She lives in Cincinnati, Ohio, with her sons and her husband, Andy, also a PMP. Ms. Tate is a Senior Life member of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) and serves as the Chair of the External Relations and Volunteer Involvement Committee of the Board of Directors of Project Management Institute.
