B.10. Help Menu

The Help menu offers useful links and references for more information about using, troubleshooting, and extending Dreamweaver:

  • Dreamweaver Help . The electronic help system that includes a handful of tutorials, background information on Web publishing, and documentation on Dreamweaver's many features.

  • Getting Started With Dreamweaver . Opens the same Help system as above but "turns the page" directly to the introduction and tutorial section.

  • Dreamweaver LiveDocs . An online version of the help system, with the added benefit that it hosts reader commentsif the help system doesn't have the answer you're looking for, perhaps someone has provided it on this Web site. (Hey, but look in this book first!)

  • What's New In Dreamweaver 8 . An overview of the new features introduced in Dreamweaver 8.

  • Using Dreamweaver . Alright, enough is enough! Opens the same help system as the previous Dreamweaver Help and Getting Started With Dreamweaver menu options.

  • Extending Dreamweaver . An electronic help system for those interested in writing their own "extensions" to Dreamweaver. Extensions are discussed in Chapter 19.

  • Dreamweaver API Reference . Even more in-depth information for the Extension developer. ber- geeky information on how to communicate directly with Dreamweaver. Programmers only; all others continue, move along, there's nothing to see here.

  • Using ColdFusion . A reference guide for setting up and using ColdFusion, Macromedia's dynamic server application. Includes information for creating ColdFusion Web pages.

  • Reference . Opens the Reference panel, a searchable guide to HTML tags, Cascading Style Sheets, and JavaScript, as described on Section 9.6.

  • Dreamweaver Support Center . Opens Macromedia's online Dreamweaver Support Center Web page in your browser. This Web site offers technical support for known bugs or common questions, downloadable updates to the program, and a link to online forums.

  • Dreamweaver Developer Center . Open Macromedia's Dev Centera Web site with tips, tricks, and in-depth articles aimed at Dreamweaver users of all levels.

  • Dreamweaver Documentation Resource Center . A Web page on Macromedia's site that offers downloadable versions of the electronic documentation provided with Dreamweaver. Also offers supplemental information, like a Dreamweaver cheat sheet and erratacorrections to the documentation.

  • Macromedia Online Forums . Opens an index of available online forums from Macromedia's Web site (in your Web browser). You can use the forums to interact with other Macromedia customers, post questions, share techniques, or answer questions posted by others. Requires Internet access and a newsgroup reader.

  • Macromedia Training . Opens Macromedia's Training Web page, where you can spend even more money learning how to use the program. Cool! Advertising, built right into Dreamweaver.

  • Online Registration . Goes to the online registration system, where you can register your copy of Dreamweaver. You must do this in order to receive any free technical support (see Section A.3).

  • Print Registration . For those Web developers who don't have an Internet connection, or who just don't trust sending their information over the Internet. Doesn't actually print anythingjust opens a browser window with an HTML form in it that you then print, fill out, and mail or fax to Macromedia.

  • About Dreamweaver (Windows Only) . Opens an About Dreamweaver window, showing your software's version number. (On the Macintosh, this command is in the Dreamweaver 8 menu.)
