Chapter 7 - Selectively Refining a Report Using Data Values
Mastering Crystal Reports 9
by Cate McCoy and Gord Maric
Sybex 2003

The best way to refine the data returned to a report is to create a WHERE clause for a SQL statement, which is exactly what the Select Expert does.

Creating combinations of conditions and understanding how to AND or OR them together in the Select Expert helps you create succinct reports.

Reports that can run based on user input are powerful ways to tailor the data needs to the user’s requirement; you can use parameters to ask users for values, filter data, and suppress data. Suppressing field data, entire lines, and even sections is another way to refine the information a report is showing.

The Highlighting Expert can clarify the message being imparted by a report through the use of color on fields or rows of data, while report alerts can separate out records that meet certain criteria so that you can examine them as a unit.
