The Report Application Server is an entry-level version of Crystal Decisions’ report-distribution and management tool—Crystal Enterprise. It can be used to implement a custom web-based reporting application using a mixture of the Report Application Server Software Development Kit and web-reporting viewers.
The Report Application Server ships with a sample web-based reporting application called ePortfolio Lite, which can be used as a starting point for developing a custom application. Using a web-development tool such as Microsoft Visual Studio 6.0, you can customize the ePortfolio Lite application to meet your own requirements.
Upgrading from the Report Application Server to one of the other more full-featured editions of Crystal Enterprise should be based on careful consideration of time, costs, available resources, and your particular business requirements.
