In Photoshop, making a selection outline works the same way as spray painting a stencil. Just as a stencil isolates the area affected by the spray paint, a selection outline isolates the area affected by a paint or edit tool. You can also fill a selection outline with color or trace around the selection outline.
Sounds easy, doesn’t it? Chapter 7 explains how to create and manipulate selection outlines. This chapter shows you what to do with the selection outlines — for instance, fill them with solid color, gradients, and outline them.
