Chapter 13. Using the Internet: Browsing the Web and Writing Email

IN THIS CHAPTER

  • Choosing a Web Browser

  • Setting Up Your SUSE Linux Email Account

  • Choosing a Mail Client (Mail User Agent)

  • Sending File Attachments

When most of us talk about using the Internet, we're usually talking about one of two things: browsing the World Wide Web or reading and sending electronic mail. For some people, these two things are the reason to have a computer in their home. As an operating system that largely owes its success to the existence of the Internet, email and the Web are things Linux does very well.

This and the next few chapters cover SUSE Linux and the Internet. Here you will learn about your many choices in browsing the Web and managing email in SUSE Linux. After that, you'll learn about helping to create the World Wide Web by making a basic website. In later chapters, we'll cover email in depth, show you how to use the net to collaborate with others, transfer files, and administer a web server.

There is a lot of things to do on the Internet, and SUSE Linux is here to help you make the most of it.
