Outlook Mobile Access

For users who want to access their Exchange Mailbox from a wireless device, Exchange Server 2003 includes Outlook Mobile Access (OMA), which is a browser-based application used to access Exchange information from Pocket PC 2002 handhelds or WAP 2.x, iMode, and GPRS-compatible devices.

OMA was originally a component of Microsoft MIS. Microsoft has discontinued MIS and rolled OMA and other features into Exchange Server 2003.

OMA is installed by default when you install Exchange Server 2003. You can access it either from your Pocket PC Internet Explorer or WAP 2.0 compatible browser at http://servername/oma, as shown in Figure 10.12.

OMA

To see OMA in action, you can download a WAP Emulator from OpenWave at http://developer.openwave.com/download/ or use the Pocket PC emulator available from http://www.microsoft.com/mobile/developer/downloads/default.asp.

Using OMA, users can browse through their Exchange Mailbox using simple text links and view, reply to, and forward messages as well as move messages between folders, view contacts, and so on. The OMA interface is basic. It's designed for devices (phones, WAP browsers, and so on) that don't have large displays or bandwidth.
