Crop and straighten your photo

Look at your image. Is it straight? Do you want to use the whole image or just a section? There are several ways to crop and straighten your image. The one you choose will depend on how much you want to crop.

Trim and straighten your photo. If your image is crooked because of a sloppy scan, the easiest way to fix it is to choose Image > Rotate > Straighten and Crop Image. Elements will automatically crop and straighten it for you.

Perhaps your image is crooked because of a bad camera angle, or maybe you just want to get rid of an insignificant element in the outer corner. Select the Crop tool () from the toolbox. Then click and drag around the area of the image that you want to keep. Once the area is selected, you can perform any of the following actions:

• Drag a corner or edge to resize the area of the crop.

• Place the cursor over a corner handle and drag in the direction you want to rotate.

• Place the cursor inside the bounding box and drag to reposition it.

When trying to straighten your image, find a true 90-degree angle to use to align your Crop tool. Pillars and picture frames work well, for example.

When you have finished, press Enter to complete the crop. If you change your mind, press Esc to cancel.
