Section 4.33. What is process orchestration?

4.33. What is process orchestration?

Process orchestration is the act of assembling the enterprise services representing components of a process into a composite application that completes the process. The goal of ESA is to create services with enough size and scope that they can be used inside a simple orchestration mechanism (modeling tools) to configure and orchestrate the process.

If the services are too small and too granular, the advantages of orchestration are lostyou might as well write code from scratch. Model-driven process orchestration is designed to be easier and simpler, an exercise in configuration rather than in gluing components together with customized code. It's not always simpler, however, as some services and business objects may actually have more functionality and complexity than are needed by the process you're trying to orchestrate.
