Section 3.3. Composing

3.3. Composing

After experiments in consuming services have proven that ESA can create a new sort of IT, the investments increase. Composing applications is the true engine of ESA. The arrival of composite applications in which new processes are automated by using process orchestration and UI patterns to create solutions that can easily be adapted and improved marks the beginning of an organizational transformation. First, the organization building the composites must be transformed. The repository of services becomes a key resource that must be managed. Business analysts must be trained and empowered to build and adapt UIs and to configure processes. Traditional boundaries between business and IT will become obsolete. The business structure at a high level will be able to be modeled in a way that will cascade from business scenarios such as order to cash, to process components, to processes, process steps, enterprise services, and business objects. The fat, impenetrable requirements document will become outdated, replaced by modeling and UIs constructed as a starting point by the people who intend to use them. With the power to change comes the responsibility to test. IT will expand its traditional processes of testing and quality control to include applications built by newly empowered business analysts.
